Biography

 

Alejandro Cortes begins his first formal studies in 2002 at the conservatory of the Catholic University of Valparaiso, where he had remarkable performances and master classes with various Chilean and international teachers. In that same period, he also had the opportunity to present his first works as a beginner student in scenarios like Valparaiso and Vina del Mar, including Rioja and Carrasco Palace, after that he record his guitar pieces works on "otra cosa es con guitarra" a tv show of UCV .

 

The 2006 his effort makes him the winner of the "Modern School Award" at the 6th National Guitar Competition "Liliana Perez Corey".

 

Consecutively, enters with the best qualifications to study the career of "Musical Interpretation with mention in Classical Guitar" and "Master of Science and Musical Arts" at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso. That year has the honor of entering the workshop of the outstanding Chilean composer, Eduardo Cáceres (Artistic Director of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile), who takes him to meet the modern language of music and create works that were later interpreted in the "international Festival of Contemporary Music Darwin Vargas" and the "international Festival of Contemporary Music at the University of Chile."

 

In 2007, he recorded works and participated in reports for "Cable Channel 13" in honor of  the great Chilean master "Fernando Garcia," and as a result of this, he performed works for the Festival of Sound Art "Tsonami". That same year he participated in the "Young composers of Valparaiso" project. composing a work for string quartet (2 violins, 1  Viola, 1 cello ) which he recorded for the album "Holos".

 

After creating several works for guitar in relation to their land (Los Vilos, Chile), they were presented and recorded  in UCV Television.

 

At an early age he demonstrated conscience and interest to promote the arts and culture of his region, managing actively and solidly cultural events as "Project Fusion", focused on bringing professional artists of national community Province of Choapa, Chile.

 

In 2009 he was invited as an outstanding student to performance Chilean music in the framework of the national ceremony "President Scholarship" in the Palacio de la Moneda, Santiago.

 

a mid year of 2009 he was awarded at the International Festival of Contemporary Music "Darwin Vargas" for his composition for two guitars, "Trompe in Trok-kyo," dedicated to his teacher, the Chilean composer Eduardo Caceres. The composition was well received by the international guest of the contest, Alicja Gronau, who personally asked to Alejandro able to premiere this work in the classrooms of the University Federico Chopin in Warsaw, Poland.

 

In his university stage he noted for his concern for the Chilean music and Latin American identity. his efforts led him to give open conferences at the university, and its strong conviction led him to gestate the project "Conference on the Interpretation and creation of Chilean Music" executed in PUCV.

 

In April 2010, his ex-establishment of secondary education, high school C-17 gives Alejandro a public recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of arts and culture in the region.

 

In August 2010 Alejandro win a scholarship to study in the United States, which made an outstanding and particular success at Utah State University, where he also executed dozens of presentations to various American institutions and conducted master classes around the culture Latin American.

 

In 2012 Alejandro takes over as Director of the Center of Musical Studies (CEM), boosting its development, creating new professorships and becoming it into one of the fundamental pillars for the development of the community. On the same stage manage the project for the creation of orchestras, founding  the first Municipal Orchestra Andina. At the same time, he promoted the creation of the Association of Friends of Musical Studies Center (AGACEM) now they are responsible of  the prosperity of the center.

 

In 2013 he was appointed Manager of Culture Community where he developed various artistic and cultural projects, emphasizing the cultural heritage and identity of the community. At this stage he performed concerts with the Chilean pianist, Roberto Scherson.

 

In mid year of 2013 he recorded an album called "Recital poético: La vida según Neruda"  with the broadcaster of Radio Beethoven, Pedro Sánchez .

 

In 2015 begins collaborates and participates as a guitarist in the "Primer festival internacional de música en la Patagonia".

 

In March 2015, Choapa Exchanges and ADM (Association of Diffusion Musicale) invites him to make an Academic tour in France and Europe in order to promote the Chilean and Latin American cultural heritage, through concerts and conferences.

 

Alejandro is currently developing his music and creating cultural projects in the social and cultural spheres.
